Mental Health America Supports Youth Returning to the Classroom

Summer is drawing to a close and that means most kids and teens will soon be headed back to school.

Mental Health America historically shares a “Back to School” toolkit to support youth, parents, educators, and others during this transition period from summer break to a new school year. This year, they announced the launch of a new guide, “Supporting Young Minds.”

The focus of this year’s materials is youth empowerment — how adults can support young people to help them feel empowered, and how youth can feel empowered to address their mental health and support one another.

The guides contain useful information for adults and students alike including:

  • Checklist on creating Safe Spaces for Youth
  • Processing tragedy
  • Validating Young People’s Feelings
  • Building a classroom relationship and culture
  • How to support your friends
  • Setting and reaching goals
