Upcoming Webinar: Building a Positive and Supportive Culture in Helpline Work

Every day, helpline workers provide a lifeline of hope to people in their time of greatest need. Whether you’re offering crisis and suicide prevention support, connecting callers to vital community resources, or helping someone navigate a challenging life transition, the work you do is powerful — and often deeply personal.

Many who are drawn to this calling arrive here because of their own experiences or connections with others. The work is meaningful and can have a lasting impact — but it can also take a toll. Talking about suicide and navigating high-stakes situations day after day can weigh heavily on even the most resilient among us. That’s why the environment we work in is just as important as the work we do.

About the Webinar

Date: Thursday, July 31
Time: 2:00pm Eastern

This upcoming workshop will focus on how to build and sustain a positive, supportive workplace culture that helps staff and volunteers thrive — while maintaining the high level of care our communities rely on.

Together, we’ll explore:

  • Creating a positive culture and the steps leaders can take to make it real and sustainable.
  • Attracting the right people by using a careful and intentional recruitment process.
  • Identifying gaps in support and finding opportunities within your organizational structure to address them.
  • Consistency and accountability as key pillars for both staff and volunteer success.

Why This Matters

Crisis line work can feel like a rollercoaster — rewarding in one moment, emotionally exhausting in the next. Staff need to feel both supported and safe to deliver their best. This webinar will cover ways to strengthen connections with your team, engage them in the organizational mission, and create an environment where everyone feels accountable for the work they do.

When the right people are hired, given the tools to succeed, and supported throughout their journey, retention becomes far more achievable. And retention matters — because stable, skilled teams are the backbone of effective helpline services.

Takeaways You Can Use Right Away

By the end of this workshop, you’ll walk away with practical action items you can take back to your center — strategies to help you retain dedicated staff and build a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven culture.
